Location: Royal Gwent Hospital, Ophthalmology Department
Duration: 2 days (Lectures, Workshops & Hands-on Simulation)
Eligibility: Doctors (Foundation to ST1-4), Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Orthoptists, and Optometrists with an interest in glaucoma and cataracts.
Course Overview
This intensive 2-day programme provides a structured learning experience in YAG laser applications for capsulotomy and glaucoma management. Participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills through expert-led lectures, hands-on simulation, and workshops.
Day 1: YAG Capsulotomy
- Laser Safety & Fundamentals – Understanding laser physics, safety protocols, and consent principles.
- Techniques of YAG Capsulotomy – Managing posterior capsular opacification and intraocular lens opacities.
- Practical Simulation – Safe delivery of YAG capsulotomy, risk assessment, and complication management.
Day 2: YAG Glaucoma Laser (PI & SLT)
- Laser Applications in Glaucoma – YAG Peripheral Iridotomy (PI), Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), and Iridoplasty.
- Patient Selection & Treatment Planning – POAG, PXF, PDS, and angle assessment techniques.
- Practical Workshops & Simulation – Hands-on YAG PI and SLT procedures with expert guidance.

- Certificate of Attendance with Royal College of Ophthalmologists accredited CPD points
